The River
2014/Ongoing
The river is a body: it has a pulse, a temperature, a memory. It flows as blood flows, carrying with it everything it has touched —the rock, the root, the rain, the ancient name someone gave it before maps existed. A river has a foot, an elbow, a mouth. It has a head and lies in a bed. It remembers everything. We carry it inside us because we are, in large part, the water we have drunk, the river that has passed through us. The river is not a noun: it is a verb (Inspired by "The First Water Is the Body" by Natalie Diaz).
