El consultori

In this open session of El Consultori we invite Valentina Alvarado Matos, Marco Noris and Stella Rahola Matutes, three artists with different profiles who will share with us their perspectives on artistic working methodologies in the various instances of our practice: how do they get inspired? how do they concentrate? how do they arrive at form? how do they verbalise, present or explain what they do? how do they stay faithful to their practice and sustain their career in this Barcelona circuit?

La Escocesa, carrer Pere IV, 345 08020 Barcelona
Dates: 22 January 2026 18:00 - 20:00
Public and free activity, no prior registration.

Bio

Valentina Alvarado Matos (1986, Venezuela) Visual artist and filmmaker. Her work addresses questions related to memory and territory through a dialogue with the materiality of film, paper, voice and ceramics. Her practice, close to collage, weaves together reflections on diasporic identity, memory and landscape. Her work has been exhibited in art centres and museums in Spain and internationally, such as La Virreina Centro de la Imagen, California Museum of Photography, V & A Museum, Artium, LIAF Bienal, Viennale, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Los Angeles Forum - 2220 Arts, Conde Duque Madrid, La Capella, among others. Some of her films are part of collections such as Light Cone, Archivo XCèntric, HAMACA and Busan Museum of Art.

Marco Noris (Bergamo, Italy, 1971) articulates his practice around memory, landscape, the body and territory, using walking as a research method and developing his work through painting, photography and audiovisual media. He has worked with curators such as Christian Alonso, Francesco Giaveri, Alexandra Laudo, Frederic Montornés, Andrea Pacheco González and Patricia Bentancur, among others, and has exhibited in galleries, art centres and museums in Spain and internationally. He has developed a career linked to institutions, research spaces and artistic residencies. His work is part of the Col·lecció Nacional d’Art Contemporani de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

Stella Rahola Matutes addresses the creation of places and situational encounters that rescue specific discarded materials through installation and sculptural pieces. The impossibility of reusing these materials, due to certain political contexts, means that they find themselves on a suspended threshold. Stella points towards a state of impermanence and uncomfortable fragility, involving other things and species. The kinships that emerge from these associations run through their forces and affectivities, opening up possibilities for forms of coexistence that involve an ecological contingency. She has exhibited in Spain and internationally and has received the Arts Libris Banc Sabadell award (2024), the Ricard Camí Visual Arts Biennial (2022), the A-FAD award in recognition of her career (2021) and the VilaCasas Foundation Sculpture Prize (2021).

El Consultori is a space open to Barcelona’s artistic community, aimed at creators in the visual arts who wish to inquire into their practice and working methodologies, share an ongoing project or strengthen it in dialogue with the perspectives and experiences of other artists. It is currently coordinated by Laura Arensburg and Natalia Carminati. If you would like more information, you can see it by clicking on this link.
