«Dins la pell de la terra (entre cims i cavallons)» is the title of my intervention in the exhibition «Un món fràgil» at Embarrat 2021, the new edition of the festival which, as every year, will take place in the spectacular halls of Cal Trepat, in Tàrrega.

Dins la pell de la terra —made up of a new arrangement of «Pells», three videos and a small intervention— will be in halls 1-3 of the old foundry.

In his recent works, Marco Noris works from painting, directing his research towards two main thematic areas: on the one hand, ruins and historical memory and, on the other, territory and landscape. In his working processes, the artist explores new forms of relationship with the environment, nature and the act of walking, bringing together two historical artistic traditions: the legacy of late-nineteenth-century open-air painting —pleinairism— and psychogeographic practices and land art or art-nature.

Dins la pell de la terra (entre cims i cavallons) is the name of the installation that Marco Noris presents at Embarrat: a project that starts from pictorial practice and that has its origin in the crossing the artist made from the city of Barcelona to the Centre d’Art i Natura de Farrera (CAN), in the Pallars Sobirà. Noris focuses on the sacred character of walking and on the relationship he establishes with elements of our environment that are as necessary as they are fragile: earth, stone, air and dust.

On a base of tissue paper —where a first confrontation can already be sensed between the fragility of the material and the resistance this support produces— and through an approach of abstract narrative, Noris underlines the spirituality and sacredness of the site where the work is installed: the Cal Trepat foundry, an industrial space that connects us with the remains of fossil fuels and charcoal once used in this type of factory.

The intervention is complemented by three contemplative videos in relation to the natural environment, where the concept of pilgrimage and the act of walking have helped him to deepen and experience his relationship with the landscape and the territory, as well as to give meaning to his artistic and aesthetic practice.
