Drawing while walking at Barcelona Dibuixa 2026

On 17 and 18 October 2026, the Museu Picasso de Barcelona hosts Drawing while walking, a participatory activity within the 17th edition of Barcelona Dibuixa. It shares with Walking Lines the idea of drawing by walking, but no device is used here: the line is imagined on the map and walked with the body.

Drawing while walking turns a walk through the city into a drawing tool, taking drawing from the page to the body and from the body into the city. The line is no longer drawn by the hand alone: footsteps, direction, fatigue, decisions and attention to the surroundings all play a part.

The map is no longer simply a tool for finding one’s way, but a springboard for the imagination. The initial drawing can never be followed exactly: the city reshapes it. A street does not exist, a turn cannot be made, a junction is awkward, a square opens up another possibility. The final form emerges from this friction between intention and urban reality.

The collective result will be a choral map of the neighbourhood: not a functional map, but a sensitive one, made of routes imagined, walked and shared.

Barcelona Dibuixa 2026

Barcelona Dibuixa is the festival that turns drawing into a way of thinking, moving through and inhabiting the city. For its 17th edition, over the weekend of 17 and 18 October, more than forty cultural and local venues open their doors to turn the city into one vast space for shared creation, guided by artists. In the festival’s own words, “at Barcelona Dibuixa, what matters is not how we draw, but everything that happens while we draw”.

This year’s poster is by illustrator and comics artist Camille Vannier (Paris, 1984), with design and layout by Sergi Puyol: an invitation to draw fearlessly and without stopping, celebrating the spontaneous gesture, the intuitive stroke and the value of mistakes as an essential part of the creative process.
