El Dorado SFB. Cartography of flamenco places
I created the image for the April-May-June 2026 programme of El Dorado Sociedad Flamenca Barcelona.
The proposal is built from the names of the places that shaped the history of flamenco in Barcelona between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries —cafés cantantes, theatres, ventas, colmaos, and tablaos— understood as a network in which the genre took form and consolidated its community.
The image works with toponymy as visual matter, configuring a surface of memory onto which the current programme is inscribed. More than an illustration, it proposes a reading of flamenco through the spaces that made it possible.
This work was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Montse Madridejos, whose research on the historic spaces of flamenco in Barcelona was fundamental to its development.
